Whisky Tango Foxtrot Korea Style
Damn!
I have been in Korea for over six months now. It is crazy how time seems to shoot by when Adishady is about to or has attempted to cheat you out of something, hiking among the masses of Koreas who offer you soju and last but not least drinking in the Ville. I attempted a couple of times to come up some of my most WTF moments here in the Hermit Kingdom. It has been tough because I see at least one WTF thing a day. In fact it has become so regular for a while I was on WTF overload. There are probably a lot of things that have hit the cutting room floor and those who have served with me here can yell at me or remind of them later. Without further adieu, here are my most WTF things in Korea, both work and non-work and they are in no particular order.
In my first Article 32 Hearing (premilinary hearing) having a witness respond after a lot of arguing by a senior CPT and Major, "Do I need a lawyer up in this b!!@h?
In this same hearing, having the senior CPT and the very bald, large and sometimes angry MAJ almost come to blows. It reads something like this:
Senior CPT: "Hey buddy if you tell me to shut up one more time, we are going to go outside.
Large MAJ: leaning over the conference table, in the skinny senor CAPTs face and in a low angry voice: "You aren't man enough!!!"
Watching an Adashady army dig a big hole two months after I arrive in front of my quarters, fill it back in and dig it up again and leave it. We are now beginning monsoon season and the hole is still not filled in and is quite close to the retaining wall for the now raging creek that flows infront of my quarters. After calling in an emergency work order (I am told Adishady is on call 24 hours a day) I am told the Adishady doesn't come in until 10am on Mondays. Meanwhile the hole is about 1/2 full of water and more rain is expected.
A Korean rap group. Yes there are several in the greater Seoul metro area.
A Korean with dreadlocks. ( I know WTF big time)
Prior to running in the Pocheon of Fortune Half-Marathon and 10k, participating in a mass group warm with Korean Techno music blasting in the back.
During the same race, getting my pictures taken with Indian Sieks who ran the race in Levi jeans and Turbins.
Going to a Juicy bar where the girls say they are singers and have a band and a bar that has a stage and instruments but does not play. (Although I did see said band play once and it was great)
Having a contractor come up to your friend in the coffee line at the PX and apologize for the late openeing of the pool and say the following.
Contractor: Sir I apologize that the pool is going to be a week late in opening due to an engineer problem.
My friend: That is okay, the summer is pretty long.
Contractor: What is going to be good about this year is that they have relaxed the pool pass policy, which means you can bring more than one guest into the pool. (awkward pause) There will be a lot of Fillpina and Korean talent there... if you know what I mean.
My friend: (Even longer award pause) Ah yeah.... I gotta go! (hasty exit from the coffee stand).
Happy 4th to Everyone. There will be lots to write about this week, I am sure.
